Make-up artist to the stars Kay Montano shares her beauty secrets:
Many of you may find that your usual make-up routine in this warmer weather simply isn't working - and that by lunchtime your eye make-up is half way down an overly shiny face.
So what's a glamorous girl to do on a summer's day? Go bare-faced?
Heavens no. Bare-faced may be fine for the under-18s or those fresh from a sunny sojourn, but the rest of us look better with a bit of help from the make-up department.
Thankfully, there are cosmetics designed not to go slip-sliding away.
Top-of-the-range brand Chantecaille has the perfect product for summer-in-the-city skin with its Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser (SPF15).
A moisturising botanical complexion perfector, it helps make oily skin matt, to ensure a flawless complexion.
Or try YSL's Matt Touch Oil-Free moisturiser followed by Estee Lauder's Double Wear Stay In Place Make-Up.
This worry-free powder make-up stays fresh and looks natural for up to eight hours, without changing colour, fading or coming off on clothes.
One of my favourite foundations, Clinique Superfit, now comes in Oil Free Long Wear. But for extra-long-lasting coverage for more mature or dry skins, try La Prairie's Cellular Radiance Lifting Foundation.
Pores can easily get clogged up in the heat, so for summer "break-outs" and blotchiness you can rely on Estee Lauder's Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer. It won't move until you want it removed.
Pretty "boutique" make-up brand Pout has a lovely Miami Beach Cheek And Lip Stain combo which will last all day, and The Body Shop also has a cute Cheek And Lip Stain.
For cheeks alone, La Prairie has a Cellular Radiance Cream Blush, which is long-wearing and non-drying.
It's advisable to avoid cream eyeshadows and soft eye pencils which will move, crease and smudge. Try instead the strong, high-quality pigments of YSL's Eyeshadow.
Its "denser" colour is suitable for professional use and is therefore longer-lasting.
Dior's Eye Show Backstage Make-Up Ultra Shimmering Eye shadow also has this quality, as does Shiseido's Hydro Powder Eye shadow.

Candy-coloured rules
The idea of any Eighties trend strikes fear in all who did it the first time around. It's not so much the shoulder pads but the time-consuming make-up masks we all applied daily.
But like most retro trends, selectively chosen elements can revitalise any staid make-up routine. Trust me, with a few tried and tested tips, you'll realise how wearable those bright colours are.
Start by choosing the part of your face that you'd most like to accentuate.
It is important to use colours that suit your complexion. For instance, if you have a lot of pink in your skin tone, you should avoid 'hot' colours like red, fuchsia and pinky-purples. If you are very sallow or pale olive, you should avoid yellow.
Always begin by creating a natural-looking 'canvas'. This will ensure you can get away with your candy-coloured eyes, lips or cheeks. If your want to accentuate your eyes, why not try using shimmering lilac above the line of your top lashes? This suits any eye colour.
If you have lovely smooth skin, apply some Prada Face Glow or Laura Mercier Secret Brightener on your cheekbones before using pink or coral blush. This will ensure your skin looks moist and lifelike underneath strong colour.
Candy pink lips can look surprisingly pretty as long as you avoid the pearl variety and leave the eyes almost bare. Try Guerlain Kisskiss in Pushy Pink.
So enjoy the candy colours this time around, without the Wham!
I have horrible dark circles under my eyes
I so sympathise with you about the dark circle syndrome as I have exactly the same problem.
If my mother tells me one more time I look tired and worn out then I'll scream - I'm not tired I just have dark circles like yourself.
Yes sleep, plenty of water, avoiding cigarette smoke and all that are major factors that can help reduce dark circles.
But unfortunately, some people are just born with them.
They become more noticeable as you get older as the delicate skin around the eyes ages and loses its elasticity.
Unfortunately I have heard of no permanent way of getting rid of them but I do have a few tips to help you out.
First, avoid rich eye creams and using too much of them, as they will only make your eyes puffy which will exaggerate the problem.
Use a face glow lotion such as Lancome's Maquisuperbe, £16/30ml under your eyes, which I find evens out the skin tone and because of the shimmer allows the light to deflect the dark colour.
Use a light concealer not a heavy cream type - which is fine for covering spots but not for a delicate eye area - and buy a shade lighter to highlight the skin.
When applying the concealer just dab with your fingertips and build up the amount slowly, as too much will age you instantly.
And finally, my favourite concealer at the moment - which makeup artist Gary Cockerill got me onto - is Estee Lauder's Disappear Smoothing Cream Concealer at £13.50.
It comes in three shades, and I have to say it's one of the best I've tried so far.
Also fantastic is Lancome's Palette Mix at £15.50 which is just the right consistency for under eyes.
Hope they work for you. |
